Built to fix what the wound-care industry quietly gave up on.
Founded in 2015. Ambulatory surgical suite opened 2018 — because the gap between bedside and the OR had become a place where patients got lost.
The numbers behind the why.
Complex wound patients face fragmented care, long referral waits, and avoidable hospitalizations. Delayed surgical intervention drives infection progression, emergency admission, and lower-extremity amputation — particularly in underserved communities.
Amputations preceded by a foot ulcer
Most preventable with timely wound and surgical care.
Mortality after major amputation
Exceeds that of most solid-organ cancers.
Disparity in amputation rates
Medicaid-insured and Black patients versus commercially insured cohorts.
Annual U.S. spend
Diabetic-foot complications — largely preventable.
Our surgical center provides timely, coordinated access to interventions that support healing and keep patients in the community — closing the gap between bedside wound care and the operating room. Jonathan Johnson, MD · Surgical Director
Led by a board-certified wound-care surgeon.
Our care is anchored by clinicians with combined fellowship training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, wound management, and healthcare administration — delivering surgical decisions grounded in outcomes, not volume.
Jonathan Johnson,
MD, MBA, CWSP.
Dr. Johnson founded Comprehensive Wound Care Services in 2015 and established Capital Surgical Center as its outpatient surgical arm — built to open timely, community-based access for the DC metro’s most complex wound patients. He serves on the board of the Capital Youth Empowerment Program and advocates for limb-preservation access in underserved communities.
